Solidariteit Helpende Hand
Solidariteit Helpende Hand is a non-profit organization where people have a passion to help others who are in need. It is an absolute “Calling” to help with love, endurance, as well as hope where most have lost hope.
In particular, Helpende Hand’s vision is to relieve, prevent, and stop poverty among South Africans. In reality, the struggle is real and growing with each passing day. Additionally, we also focus on three more levels: Spiritually, Culturally, and Physically. Especially when we work with the elderly, children, and the disabled.
As with other non-profit organizations, Helpende Hand is dependent on funds and help from the community. Funds are raised through various projects and donations from people and companies in the area. Helpende Hand is a well functional structure made up of the following:
- Head Office with approximately 60 personnel
- Regional Office
- Branch structure
- Volunteers
- Networking
Furthermore, to help fight poverty, we focus on the foundation and management of student funds.

Supporters
In addition to the 150 branches in 10 regions, Helpende Hand is assisted by 40 000 supporters. All working together towards the same goal.
The Elderly and Disabled
Senior citizens are often very lonely. Therefore, Helpende Hand regards that as emotional poverty and tries to spoil the elderly by organizing different events and by keeping them busy with projects such as the #KnittingNeedle project.
#HelpJag and #StopHonger
#HelpJag and #StopHonger are feeding programs where over 6 550 needy children receive a healthy balanced meal daily. The meat for these projects mainly consists of venison. Thus the #-name.
School Bag Project
The Solidarity Helpende Hand’s School Bag Project was founded in 2008. Since so many learners in Grade 1 do not have an equal chance to start their school career on the first day at school. Through this project, Grade 1 learners in need now receive a school bag full of stationery and other items they need. In 2019, the School Bag Project, which has already kicked off more than 30 000 learners’ school careers, will continue to help needy learners.
#HelpHetta
This is a project which addresses the challenge school girls face regarding sanitary products. Research has indicated that these girls are absent from school for up to five days per month because of a lack of enough sanitary ware for one month. Several efforts are driven to collect funds and sanitary for this project.
#FrouVonds
Miss spelled on purpose, the name says it all. Not all things in life come without trouble, sometimes a little help is necessary. This project focuses on helping young ladies and women. Supporting and training them through tough times.
Ons Winkel
Currently, Helpende Hand has over 50 shops. These shops help with project funding as well as opening up extra centers, and funds for student loans. Through the shops, we also create job opportunities.
Student Loans
Helping Hand has been offering study loans to learners who want to further their studies at tertiary institutions since 2008. These loans are interest-free and very popular among people who cannot afford to fund their children’s studies. Thousands of students received loans to the total value of more than R34 million. We try continuously to find more sponsors to ensure that more and more students receive access to interest-free study loans.
