SA Harvest is taking a revolutionary approach to end hunger in South Africa. By taking action against the causes of hunger, recovering nutritious food, and delivering it where it’s most needed. SA Harvest believes that every South African has the right to sufficient, nutritious food. The right to food requires that food be available, accessible, and adequate for everyone without discrimination at all times.
The biggest and most urgent crisis our country is facing today is the lack of food security. Even though South Africa produces more than enough food to feed all our citizens, there are over 20 million men, women, and children that are not benefiting from the foods. Instead, 10 million tons of food get wasted annually.
Food inequality and poor nutrition have negatively impacted over half of South Africa’s children, resulting in malnutrition, high infant mortality, cognitive development delays, long-term disease (such as diabetes), a failure to thrive academically as well as many other social problems.
The SA Harvest operating model
SA Harvest has a well-established infrastructure, technology, and a network of partnerships. Sourcing food from a variety of suppliers such as farmers, food producers, restaurants, and many more. Collecting and delivering foods with refrigerated vehicles to ensure freshness and food safety.
Furthermore, all the beneficiary organizations are qualified to safely handle, prepare and distribute nutritious meals to the communities in need.
